CATARMAN, Camiguin – LGU Catarman, Camiguin launches Smoke-Free and Plastic-Free campaigns. A caravan, led by the Municipal Mayor, Hon. Kiterio Antonio U. Palarca II, was done to kickstart the launching. The “Plastic Mo, Bigas Ko” and “Opos Mo, Bigas Ko” campaigns signal the implementation of Municipal Ordinance No. 1, series of 2019 “Prohibiting the Use of Styrofoam and Plastic Bag on Dry Goods and Regulating its Utilization on Wet Goods within the Municipality of Catarman and Prescribing Penalties thereof…” and Municipal Ordinance No. 01, series of 2017 “Banning the Use and Smoking of Cigars, e-Cigarettes, Cigarettes, and Other Tobacco Products in Public Places, Public Buildings, Public Utility Vehicles, and Other Likes Areas, Providing Fines and Penalties Thereof and for Other Purposes…” from January 14, 2020 to January 31, 2020 wherein a kilo of plastic for a kilo of commercial rice and 100 pieces cigarette butts for a kilo of commercial rice
The “Plastic Mo, Bigas Ko” and “Opos Mo, Bigas Ko” are part of the 10-Point Keen, Institutionalized & Transparent (KIT) AGENDA of the Municipal Mayor. The “Plastic Mo, Bigas Ko” is timely as January is declared Zero Waste Month by virtue of Proclamation No. 760 signed on May 5, 2014 by then President Benigno Aquino III.
